Bruce and his wife Sheri live on a cattle ranch in Fittstown, Oklahoma. Their older children Zac and Holly attended Oklahoma Christian University with their spouses, and their son Coleman attends Harding University. Their youngest son Ryan was adopted from Haiti and is in seventh grade. Bruce serves as an elder, song leader, and Bible class teacher for Fittstown Church of Christ.
Bruce graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1988 and attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma. He practices Internal Medicine and operates a Veteran’s Community Based Outpatient Clinic with six medical providers. He has done local volunteer work for CASA, Ada Area Youth Services, and the Compassion Outreach Clinic. He currently serves on the board of directors for Christian Homes and Family Services and for Vision Bank of Oklahoma. Mission work is highly valued in their family and they have been involved with efforts in Mexico, Nicaragua, and Honduras.
Bruce’s Haiti Involvement
Bruce and Sheri first traveled to Haiti in 2000. Since then they have each traveled back more than a dozen times leading medical relief groups involving over 200 volunteers and 14 of their direct family members.
Bruce’s team made nine medical relief trips over the three years following the Haiti earthquakes in 2010. He has been active with raising benevolent funds for needs in Haiti and has preached on a number of occasions in Haiti as well as being involved with teaching health care topics at the Center for Biblical Training. Their teams hold clinics in congregations of CBT graduates and they maintain contact with many of these congregations providing medical and spiritual counsel.
Sheri has assisted with CBT graduation ceremonies and with teaching women’s and children’s programs in Haiti. Bruce and Sheri have been fortunate to provide consultation for a number of American congregations to assist with planning successful mission trips to Cap Haitien.
“We are so blessed to be involved with a mission that has so much potential to make a real and lasting impact on this unique culture. The people of Haiti are the most receptive and eager learners I have encountered, and change happens quickly and visibly when the they are presented with the gospel of Christ. The students and their congregations are warm and have always shown gratitude for our efforts. They are truly concerned about the physical health of their children and their elderly as well as for the spiritual health of the church in Haiti. Being involved with the remarkable men who train at the CBT has been the most rewarding opportunity our family has
experienced.”
